Answers in Genesis History Revealed Review

Answers in Genesis History Revealed Review

(I received this curriculum in exchange for my honest review.)

Do you love audio learning?  I know I do. It’s so easy to stick in a disc, while driving to appointments or practice, and learn about history from the Resurrection to the Revolution. We did just that with this new full family curriculum pack from Answers in Genesis.

History Revealed is a biblically based world history curriculum for all learning styles, modalities, and intelligences. Writer Diana Waring did a wonderful job on the teacher’s guide, the best I’ve ever seen, as well as incorporating exploration, hands-on activities, and expression into this curriculum pack. I seriously wish all homeschool curriculum was laid out as well as this is.

Romans, Reformers, Revolutionaries – the pack that we decided to review – starts after the Resurrection of Christ {about A.D. 300} and goes to 1799. The last couple of years we have been working through The Mystery of History. We had already decided to take a break this year to go a little more in depth into this period {while my 17 year old works through a high school level British History}. So when Answers in Genesis asked me to review History Revealed, I was excited to add this to my 10 year old’s curricula.

There are 9 units in the main book. Each unit is broken up into 4 phases. I like how each phase is different for each learning style. There are reading, listening, activities, and more.

AiG Phase 1

I wrote down what we needed to listen to on the CDs, from each unit, so that when we are in the van I can make sure we are on track with where we are suppose to be. Although some of this is review, for my kids, the narrator’s voice is actually quite pleasant to listen to. I think I’m enjoying it more than my kids… but I control the radio so they don’t have much of a choice. ;-)

AiG Music

Also, included was a music CD that covers old hymns for church history. This is something I didn’t learn about until taking Music Appreciation in college, so what a wonderful addition to homeschool curriculum. Plus, for more added hands-on learning… recipes for you to make at home… as well as Art Appreciation, Science, Architecture, and a lot more.

I think one of my favorite additions was the Elementary Activity Book. Maybe I liked it because I know my kids, especially my 10 year old, loves activity books… but it was a nice addition to what I think is already a great set of books.

AiG Elementary Book

Inside this book are historical pictures to color, crossword puzzles, word searches, maps, suggested books for reading, mazes, goofy games, and places to draw and write. What a great thing to have for an active child, like I have, while you do the reading or listening to the CDs. Very smart, in my opinion. And fun!

AiG Where

The only bad thing that I can say about History Revealed is that coming from The Mystery of History, this curriculum seems like a lot more work. The extra “work” really is not a bad thing. It’s not complicated. It’s just not something that we’re used to… so it has taken some extra effort on my part to get my son on this track. I honestly wish we had gone this route from the beginning, as I like to use multi-age curriculum. This is definitely one of the good ones. And well worth the price for all that you get in the full curriculum pack.
